2024 will be a banner year for Singapore Theatre Company with one of the most exciting seasons ever produced.
For the first time, STC will be staging a triple bill of three one-person plays, each exploring a different aspect of human existence and resilience in the face of adversity. We have chosen these plays because we believe they offer a unique and powerful insight into the lives of three remarkable individuals, whose stories transcend their personal circumstances and resonate with universal themes.
These three one-person plays showcase the versatility and virtuosity of the performers, the richness and diversity of the cultures, and the depth and complexity of the emotions.
In March, Grounded by George Brant tells the story of a female fighter pilot who is grounded by an unexpected pregnancy and reassigned to operate military drones from a windowless trailer out in the desert. The play examines the psychological and ethical implications of remote warfare, as well as the challenges of balancing a military career and a family life.

In April, TAHA by Amer Hlehel is a tribute to Palestinian poet Taha Muhammad Ali. Be captivated by this tour-de-force performance that captures Taha’s life story, where his exquisite poetry is intertwined with his compelling life odyssey.
The play eloquently traces Taha's journey from a humble shopkeeper in Palestine to a celebrated poet worldwide. It unfolds, taking us from his ill-starred birth through the tragic wars that compelled his family to flee their homeland, grappling with the poignant themes of displacement and lost identity. Centered around his experiences of loss, love, and hope, Taha's story is narrated with a poignant yet humorous voice. The performance, delivered by acclaimed actor Amer Hlehel and directed by Amir Nizar Zuabi (Little Amal), brings this captivating narrative to life.
In May, Paradise or the Impermanence of Ice Cream is a playful and profound new play about the impermanence of life, love, and ice cream. Inspired by Ernest Becker’s Pulitzer prize-winning book Denial of Death and the vibrant city of Mumbai, the play follows the afterlife of Kutisar, a man who tries to avoid death by reliving his past, where a rebellious young woman holds the key to his salvation.
Paradise or the Impermanence of Ice Cream is proudly co-presented by Singapore Repertory Theatre and Indian Ink Theatre Company.

Singapore Theatre Company (STC), formerly known as Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT), just celebrated its 30th anniversary. STC is one of the leading English language theatre producers and presenters in Asia, including musicals, critically acclaimed plays, and innovative educational programmes.
STC’s mission is to enrich, engage, and entertain audiences by collaborating with the best talents from Singapore and around the world. In addition to its repertoire of original musicals like Forbidden City: Portrait of an Empress, the company has produced a number of critically acclaimed plays including The Pillowman, Disgraced and most recently 2:22 - A Ghost Story. STC was the first Singaporean theatre company on Broadway in 1998 as Associate Producer of Golden Child, which went from Singapore to New York and earned three Tony Award nominations. STC’s international collaborations include Royal Shakespeare Company’s King Lear and The Seagull starring Sir Ian McKellen, Oscar-winning Sam Mendes’ The Bridge Project (2009-2011) as well as 3 Titans of Theatre – a season of works directed by Simon McBurney, Yukio Ninagawa and Peter Brook.
STC produces the very successful Shakespeare in the Park season and STC’s The Little Company is one of the biggest producers of children’s theatre in Southeast Asia with shows like The Cat in the Hat, The Ugly Duckling and The Three Little Pigs.
Singapore Theatre Company is proud to launch the Centre for Creative Learning for children, youth, and adults, as a further development of the learning and engagement programmes that we have delivered over the past decades. This initiative will be built upon a bedrock of 21st century learning skills to enhance critical thinking, communication, storytelling, and creativity in the community.
