Inclusive Young Company (iYC) is a holistic acting programme for young persons and adults between the ages of 16 – 35, who identify as persons with disabilities.
About the Access Buddy Scheme
As part of the programme, we wish to build a volunteer community working with our partners. The Access Buddy scheme is a programme that allows stakeholders to volunteer their time to support our iYC members, should they require it. Disability awareness training will be given to volunteers who wish to fulfil this role.
The duties of an Access Buddy may include support in these areas:
Transport - arranging for young people who need specific support in travelling to the programme to get there safely. This could be collecting them by car, arranging their taxi, or travelling with them on public transport;
Workshops - attending workshop sessions to actively join in the theatre workshop to offer young people assistance – either for mobility support, communication support or just by being a friendly face to inspire engagement;
Events – attending excursions, performances and showcases to offer support with Front of house, backstage care and general event duties.
Once all stakeholders are confirmed, we will arrange an ‘onboarding’ event, which will offer a thorough introduction to Access and Disability Awareness. Once accepted as volunteer we request that you commit to a minimum of 8 sessions over a 16 week semester. This ensures a safe environment for our participants, as they get to know the volunteers in the room.
