Learn from Kate and Ellis how they put a show for SRT using Nursery Crimes as an example. This creative process look at elements such as the story, structure, design and musical choices. It will take Nursery Crimesas a starting point for discussions and will cover tips and tricks that can be used in pre-production and the rehearsal process. The workshop is aimed specifically for directors and writers.

Kate Golledge (Writer & Director)
Kate is a theatre director based in London and lives with her husband – a lighting designer – and their pet Schnauzer. She is personal assistant and taxi driver to Finn, her 18 month old little boy, who is enjoying visiting Singapore for the second time in his short life! Kate specialises in directing musicals, especially brand new musicals, and in creating theatre productions with and for young people. This will be Kate’s seventh show for SRT, having previously directed Fantastic Mr Fox (2012), Red Riding Hood (2013), The Nightingale (2014), Junior Claus (2014), Treasure Island (2015) and most recently, last year’s Chicken Little. She loves working in Singapore and now considers it her second home.
Kate enjoys travelling with work and has visited Beirut, Dubai, Italy and France to put together various different productions. In London, Kate worked on the most recent production of The Wizard of Oz at the World Famous London Palladium, and every year she also enjoys working with the National Youth Music Theatre to develop and direct a new show with a huge performing company of young people selected from all over the UK. Ellis Kerkhoven (Writer & Director)
Ellis is a writer, devisor, director, actor and theatre maker for young people. He set-up and ran Malvern Youth Theatre before training at the Guildford School of Acting, winning the G.S.A. Acting Award and receiving scholarships from Sir Anthony Hopkins and Michael Redgrave. He trains regularly as a member of the Authentic Artist Collective in London, exploring his passion for collaborative, ensemble-based theatre making.
Some of Ellis’ Writing and/or Directing projects include: Charlotte’s Web, SRT, Children of the New Forest, The Midnight Flower Press, Maelstrom - Legends of the Underworld, Lullaby of Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, A Drug Called Love. He also writes books for young people.
As a performer Ellis has performed in the West End, UK Tours and overseas. Acting experience includes: Rock N Roll, Julius Caesar, Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, The Amazons. Fantastic Mr Fox. Doctor Dolittle, Charley’s Aunt, The Importance of Being Earnest, Hayfever, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Peter Pan. He has also appeared on tv, film and commercials.
