To date, SRT has absorbed 248 metric tonnes of CO2 — how cool is that?
At SRT, we care deeply about sustainability. It has been a longstanding priority for us, and we are committed to our journey of creating a more sustainable future for future generations. There is no time like the present, which is why we’re doing our part to strengthen Asia’s green lungs: mangroves.
Mangroves are magical: these salt-tolerant trees are home to a plethora of aquatic wildlife, flora and fauna. Apart from protecting local animal and human communities, they are also powerful carbon sinks. They have the potential to keep carbon safe for thousands of years if left undisturbed. In short, they are a solution to the current climate crisis.
There is a way where you can be part of the action. We’ve partnered with Handprint.tech, an innovative technology company that connects companies to sustainability projects in line with their values, and helps them measure the impact of their actions.
Our passion project of choice? Restoring mangroves.
Thanks to their handy Handprint Target Calculator, we’ve been able to understand how much carbon dioxide we release into the environment, and how many mangroves are needed to remove the excess CO2 from the atmosphere.
When we staged Lungs — a beautiful, heartbreaking story of a couple weighing the pros and cons of bringing children into our ecologically fraught world — we planted 380 mangroves to ensure the production was carbon-positive. We added another 535 mangroves from the recycling and up-cycling projects from The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged).
Want to make your theatre visit planet positive? All you need to do is add 1 dollar to your ticket, and we’ll plant a mangrove for every extra dollar received.
You can also take part in our upcycling project by purchasing a set of pouches that are ideal to hold documents or a laptop for $15 a set! These PVC materials were used during the production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) as part of our set design.
All proceeds from sales of our merchandise go towards restoring the mangroves and saving our planet.
